Without realization, I have been consuming a lot of unhealthy snacks and processed foods. Before 2026, I hope to regain control over my eating habits through a food journal.

Food Log: The First Step Toward Meaningful Change

Over the past few years, I noticed a subtle pattern in my daily life: whenever I felt busy or stressed, I would unconsciously reach for unhealthy snacks or processed food. The frequency was higher than I thought, and I rarely paused long enough to notice.

As 2026 approaches, I want to regain a sense of control over what I eat. Meanwhile, I don’t want to wait for the new year to begin, and so I decided to start now, by re-introducing a simple food log into my weekly planning routine.

This food log isn’t about calories, rules, or restriction.

It’s about awareness—seeing my days more clearly, one meal at a time.

1 | Why I restarted food logging

I used to keep food logs back when my planning system was analogue.  However, the habit disappeared when I transitioned into a digital bullet journal.

Thinking back, food logging helped my notice patterns I usually ignored :

• What I reached for when stressed

• How certain meals made me feel

• Which habits quietly shaped my days

If I want to make meaningful change, the first step is simple: eat with awareness.

My goal is not about perfect tracking, but clarity and consistent observation.

To make this sustainable, I added a small food log section in my weekly spread - minimal, easy to maintain, and naturally integrated with my current planning system.

2 | Week one: Imperfect, yet Honest

My first week back to food logging was far from perfect.

I did not track every meal. Some days were too busy, and some moments slipped through. A few entries were back tracked while others never made it onto the page. The food log section ended up with some empty spaces.

Nonetheless, the gaps were surprisingly helpful.

They showed me:

• Which meals I tend to forget to note down

• What time of day I stop paying attention

• What structure I actually need for sustainable tracking

These small discoveries are the awareness that I am trying to build.

3 | Adjusting the Format for a Busy Schedule

A habit lasts not due to its perfection but because how it fits the rhythm of the life.

Hence, I experimented with a simpler layout - something I could maintain even during hectic weeks.

A three-line structure:

• Breakfast/brunch

• Lunch/dinner

• Snacks/chips/sweets

I am not aiming for high accuracy.

I am aiming for a system that feels light, doable, and honest.

A system that stays with me even when life gets full.

4 | In Summary

Restarting my food log is my first step toward mindful change.

It is not  a challenge nor a strict routine.

It is a quiet reminder:

Pause. Look. Understand yourself a little more.

I will continue adjusting the layout and format until I find what feels most natural and sustainable.

For now, simply practicing awareness—imperfectly, consistently—is enough.
